Greentube-Owned StarGames Casino Gears Up For Regulated German Market Entry

Greentube-owned online casino StarGames is set to apply for a license to operate in Germany as the nation is gearing up preparations for the enforcement of its new gambling law in July 2021.

StarGames is owned by Greentube Malta and is known in the iGaming industry as the first online casino brand to offer Greentube’s hugely popular Book of Ra slot to players from Germany.

StarGames already has significant experience in the German market as it holds a license to operate in Schleswig-Holstein, the only German state that previously had a proper online gaming regulatory framework.

Germany is set to formally legalize online casino and poker games in July 2021 when its new law is set to take effect. However, the heads of the nation’s 16 states announced in September a so-called Tolerance Policy for Germany-facing iGaming operators.

Under that policy, such operators can offer iGaming services to German players as long as they make sure their operations are fully compliant with the provisions of the country’s new gambling law, Glücksspielstaatsvertrag, even though it will not be until a few more months when it is implemented.

German Entry Preparations

Greentube said Thursday that its StarGames brand has begun preparations to enter the regulated German iGaming market. In anticipation of its expansion, it has recently launched a landing page that offers information to German players who want to stay up-to-date with the latest developments around its regulated market debut.

As part of its preparations, the operation has also begun taking the necessary steps to ensure its offering is fully compliant with the Tolerance Policy guidelines and socialy responsibility rules. These include monthly deposit, stake, and time limits, a ban on online slots autoplay and progressive jackpots, a reality check functionality that activates every 60 minutes and has a mandatory five-minute cooling off period, and more.

As mentioned above, Greentube Malta is currently operating StarGames. The company is in the process of applying for a B2C license from the Malta Gaming Authority, and will also apply for a German online gaming license as soon as this is possible.

Commenting on their anticipated launch across Germany, Greentube Malta Managing Director Trevor De Giorgio said that they have already proved that they have “the games, the technology, the knowhow and the security to offer players transparent, safe, top-quality gaming” through their Schleswig-Holstein operation.

Mr. De Giorgio added that while Germany’s new online gaming regulations “certainly bring with them new challenges”, they are looking forward to being able to deliver “the best product entertainment possible.”
